How the plastic entrance reducer works

The sliding gate gives you flexible control:

1. Fully closed — for transporting your beehive safely
2. Partially open — slide the gate to control the entrance size. A smaller entrance helps small or new colonies defend against pests and robber bees.
3. Bee-only access — the entrance is sized to let bees through but block mice and other larger pests.

When to reduce your hive entrance

• Autumn and winter — smaller openings are easier to defend and retain warmth
• New or weak colonies that struggle to guard a full entrance
