Bee Escape Board / Clearer Board - 10 Frame Size, for Clearing Honey Supers of Bees
10 frame bee escape board (also called a clearer board) — sits between the brood box and honey super, for clearing honey supers of bees before harvest. Corner escapes let bees exit the honey super at night but block them from returning, so most of the bees have moved down by the following morning. Timber construction with galvanised steel escapes.
How to use
- Place the clearer board under the honey super you want to remove
- Leave overnight
- Bees exit the honey super to tend brood or forage but cannot return
- Lift the honey super the following day for extraction — most bees will have moved down to the brood box
Timing tip
Don't leave the clearer board on too long — bees will eventually figure out how to re-enter through the escapes. Overnight is ideal.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take? Bees will noticeably reduce within a few hours, and overnight is usually enough for most bees to move down to the brood box. Don't leave the board on too long though — if left several days, bees can figure out how to re-enter through the escapes.
Do I need to smoke the bees? No — the whole point of a clearer board is that the bees remove themselves without smoking or shaking, which is gentler on the colony and cleaner for harvest.
Can I re-use it? Yes — the board and escapes are built for repeat use across seasons.
Do you have an 8 frame version? Currently we only stock the 10 frame size. Contact us if you need 8 frame.
