Woven 304 stainless steel wire mesh in 5-sheet, 10-sheet, 20-sheet and 50-sheet packs — for beekeepers building their own ventilated beehive bases, screened bottom boards or inner covers. Same food-grade stainless steel we use in our own assembled mesh bases.

Specifications

  • Material: 304 food-grade stainless steel
  • Sheet size: 495mm × 385mm (fits 10 frame Langstroth bases; can be cut down for 8 frame size)
  • Wire diameter: 0.99mm
  • Aperture (hole size): 3.5mm — small enough that bees can't get through, large enough for small hive beetle and varroa mites to drop through
  • Sold in packs of 5, 10, 20 or 50 sheets

Uses

  • Screened bottom boards / mesh vented beehive bases
  • Inner cover ventilation panels
  • Varroa monitoring drop trays (see how beekeepers use them)
  • Small hive beetle trapping
  • DIY nucleus hive bases
  • Custom hive stand mesh

Prefer fully assembled?

If you don't want to build your own, our assembled mesh vented bases use this exact same 304 stainless steel mesh, ready to go in the hive.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 3.5mm aperture keep pests out? The mesh is sized so bees can't get through, but varroa mites and small hive beetles can fall through onto a slide-out tray below. Combine with a beetle trap for full SHB control.

Will this rust? No — 304 stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and holds up outdoors for years.

Love this mesh

I didn't get the woven wire mesh for bee hives, I purchased them because they are the perfect fit for my dry gemstone trommel screens, unfortunately where I live I can not have been hives much to my disappointment. Very fast postage and packaging is great, thanks guys..... 😁💎👍

I purchased SS wire mesh for bottom boards at a very competitive price. The delivery was prompt and the mesh was of superior quality. I will definitely buy from this company again without hesitation.

Bottom Board Upgrades

Beekeeping has become more challenging with the combined impact of the Varroa mite and the Small Hive Beatle. This duo operates as a very efficient TAG team that can devastate the strongest of hives.
Use of a screened bottom board is one element of a regime to minimise the level of hives losses.
While I have used a screen and tray strategy for almost 20 years I will now implement screened bottom boards for all my hives. This will require modification of my existing boards to incorporate the SS mesh sourced from The Bee Shop.
