8 Frame Beehive Base - Mesh Vented Bottom Board With Drawer Trap
These 8 frame beehive bases are made from New Zealand pine and 304 stainless steel.
The bases feature a mesh base for hive health, ventilation and small hive beatle management. The bases also have a removable draw tray to help trap small hive beatles. The bees chase the beatles around the hive and they fall through the mesh bottom. The beetles can be trapped by using chux cloth, oil or diatomaceous earth (check regulations in your state) in the removable tray drawer.

Available raw timber or wax dipped and painted. Wax dipping is a process many commercial beekeepers use to preserve the timber for a longer working life. The bases are dipped into a wax mix of 50/50 microcrystalline/paraffin and then painted 4 times.

The packaging was flimsy but no damage was noted.
The construction standard is improved over the 10F units.
Specific Shortcomings:
1. The design allows rain water to fill the tray. A small deflector is suggested to avoid.
2. The gap above the rear wooden rail on the tray allows bees to enter.
3. Fixing to this rail to the tray is flimsy.
4. The design may be improved by incorporating a 60mm no-mesh section inside the entrance. The bees would ascend onto the lower frame areas and not lose so much pollen into the tray..
This also applies to the 10F models.
